Skytap Gets $7M

Seattle-based Skytap, a developer of cloud-based, virtual lab services, said Monday morning that it has raised $7M in a Series B funding round. The firm said the funding came from Ignition Partners, Madrona Venture Group, and the Washington Research Foundation, and that the funding will go towards product development, sales, and marketing efforts. Skytap operates a service which allows users to create a virtual "cloud" for IT testing, application development, and prototyping. The firm said that customers only need to pay for time and resources utilized by developers for its service. The firm's services are being targeted at developers of software applications, who typically have to invest a lot into hardware such as servers and storage for quality assurance, testing, and development activities.
