Expedia Goes Green, Tackles Global Warming
Bellevue, Washington-based Expedia.com has jumped onto the green bandwagon, saying Monday that it will allow travelers to purchase carbon offsets as part of booking flights. The provider of web travel booking services said that it is partnering with TerraPass, a provider of greenhouse gas reduction projects, to offer the offsets. Purchasing carbon offsets goes into projects which are certified to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, such as wind farms, methane plants, and other clean energy projects which help tackle global warming. Expedia said that travelers can choose to purchase offsets at various levels, ranging from $5.99 to $29.99 depending on miles traveled.
