    JanRain Upgrades OpenID Software

Portland's JanRain, which develops open source software for the OpenID digital identity project, said today that it has added support for OpenID 2.0. OpenID 2.0 is the latest version of a standard used for single sign-on and authentication of users across Internet web sites. JanRain said the support came alongside security improvements, ability to exchange attributes in profiles, and ability of users to have multiple platforms using its software. The firm also added a number of software libraries to its product. Single sign-on is the ability for users to use the same username and password across multiple web sites, with automatic updates of user information and new passwords.
