Microsoft to Shave $50 off Xbox 360 Retail Price

Computing giant Microsoft Corp. revealed Monday that it will knock $50 of the retail cost of its popular Xbox 360 gaming consoles. Microsoft said the price reduction will take effect Wednesday and will apply to every console it offers. According to the Redmond, Wash.-based company, the basic Xbox 360, which includes a 20GB hard drive, a wireless controller and an Xbox 360 headset, will retail for about $350. The dressed-down Xbox 360 Core System will fetch slightly less than $280, while the upscale Xbox 360 Elite, which offers a 120GB hard drive, will go for some $450. Also, Microsoft said it will debut the Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition Console in September for $400.
