Amazon Takes On CDN Market

Amazon has added another leg to its web services offerings, saying today that it has launched a new AWS Content Delivery Service, which will offer a way to distribute content to end users. According to Amazon, its service--which is currently in beta with a small group of customers--will allow developers and businesses to deliver content over HTTP connections. The content delivery service will be pay-as-you-go, and according to the firm requires only a simple API call to start delivering content. The new service is also linked with Amazon S3, Amazon's storage-as-a-service offering. As with other CDN services, Amazon said that the new web service will automatically route client requests to edge locations for high performance delivery of content. No pricing details have been released.
