Clearwire Launches Developer Effort In Silicon Valley

Kirkland-based WiMAX networking provider Clearwire has launched an effort to cater to developers in Silicon Valley, saying today that it has opened up a new 4G network in the region specifically geared towards developers. According to the firm, the CLEAR 4G WiMax Innovation Network covers more than 20 square miles in Santa Clara, Mountain View, and parts of downtown Palo Alto. Clearwire had originally announced the effort in April. The company said the network is a precursor to wider, San Francisco Bay area coverage planned for 2010. The development network specifically covers the campuses of Intel and Google, who are developing 4G applications. Access to the network will be free to a "limited number" of qualified developers who purchase WiMAX equipment from Clearwire and provide the firm with more information about the WiMAX enabled products they are developing.
