Vidoop Restarts As New Security Startup, Confident Technologies

Portland, Oregon-based Vidoop, the defunct maker of OpenID software, has come back to life in the startup of a web security software firm in San Diego, California. According to Curtis Staker of Confident Technologies, the firm acquired the assets of Vidoop in January, hired a number of former Vidoop employees, and is now offering up software used to authenticate users into web sites using visual cues and images. Confident also is offering image-based CAPTCHA software, and other related software. Vidoop, which raised over $8M in venture capital, shut down in June of 2009, after failing to gain additional investors. Vidoop had relocated to Portland from Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2008.
