Second Russian Spy Linked To Seattle Technology Firm

Reports today have identified a Seattle-area employee of Microsoft as the alleged twelfth Russian spy in the investigation of a Russian spy ring. The twelfth person is allegedly part of the 11 Russian spies traded by the U.S. last week in what could have been straight out of a chapter from a cold war spy novel, and was apparently an employee of Microsoft Corp. According to reports from U.S. law enforcement officials, they deported an alleged twelfth person, Alexey Karetnikov, in their investigation into a Russian spy ring, saying that Karetnikov had worked at Microsoft Corp. in the Seattle area. The revelations are the second link of Seattle area companies to the Russian spying investigation--earlier this month, Redfin revealed that one of its contract field agents, Tracey Foley, had worked for the firm in the Boston area. Foley was later revealed to be Elena Vavilova, one of the ten spies traded by the U.S. in its spy-for-spy exchange last week.
