Amazon Deal-of-the-Day Boosts LivingSocial

A $10 for a $20 gift card offer for Amazon.com has spurred a massive response and signup for daily deals site LivingSocial, a little over a month after Amazon put its backing behind the Washington, DC-based daily deals site. In an offer on LivingSocial, Amazon.com said it would offer a "once in a lifetime" deal to pay only $10 for a $20 gift certificate for Amazon.com on the site. Just last month, Amazon.com invested $175M in LivingSocial, which competes against daily deals site Groupon in offering up deals on restaurants, spas, sporting events, hotels, merchandise, and more in major cities. As of 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, over 490,000 people had taken LivingSocial up on the deal.
