Cray Sees Issues With Installation, Cuts Estimates

Seattle-based supercomputer maker Cray has hit some snags in an installation of one of its supercomputers, the firm reported this morning. According to Cray, it did not complete the acceptance process of a Cray XK6 upgrade at an installation at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which would enable it to achieve its 2011 outlook. Cray said it was impacted by supply issues on a key component, which will result in total revenues in 2011 to be about $230 to $240M. Cray had earlier expected $290 to $320M in revenues for the year. Cray had scored a $97M contract with Oak Ridge National Laboratory in October. The firm said it now expects to complete the install in the first quarter.
