Itron Backs Green Button Initiative

Liberty Lake, Washington-based Itron, the maker of smart utility meters, is putting its weight behind the "Green Button" effort by the White House, to make it easier for utility consumers to download their energy usage and consumption information. Itron said it is making the "Green Button" a standard feature in its energy data presentation software. The effort, which was launched earlier this year by the Department of Energy, looks to standardize the energy consumption data provided by utilities nationwide, into a consistent format which can be parsed and analyzed by software. Itron said it has been supporting the efforts since December of 2011, when one of its customers, San Diego Gas and Electric, began providing the "Green Button" functionality to customers.
