Cray's YarcData Awards $100,000 In Challenge

Cray owned YarcData, the developer of big data analytics software has announced the winners of the firm's $100,000 Graph Analytics Challenge, a competition to showcase big data graphing solutions--with the big winner being Seattle's own Institute for Systems Biology. YarcData said that it awarded $70,000 between Dr. Brady Bernard, Andrea Eakin, and Dr. Ilya Shmulevich, of The Institute for Systems Biology (ISB), for their work researching more than 25 different types of cancer. The team used YarcData's graph analytics appliance as part of its research. Second place went ot a team from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and third prize went to another local researcher, Dr. Abraham Flaxman, of the University of Washington Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.
