Amazon Expands Playlists, Music Catalog

Seattle-based Amazon.com is expanding the music catalog available through its Amazon Prime service, saying it added "hundreds of thousands" of songs, and hundreds of themed playlists to the service. Amazon did not detail what licensing efforts were behind the expansion of its catalog, which includes both new and existing artists in the streaming music service. The number of tracks--and particularly, the lack of current hits--was widely criticized in Amazon's launch on June 12th. The streaming music service is part of the all-you-can-eat features of Amazon Prime, which also included free two day shipping, movie and television streaming, and borrowing of books for Amazon's Kindle.
