F5, VMware Tie On Software Defined Data Center Effort

Seattle-based F5 Networks, which develops network traffic management hardware, and virtualization software developer VMware said today at VMware's big customer conference, VMworld, that the two are working together on a software-defined data center effort. The two said their respective products, F5's BIG-IQ and VMWare's NSX virtualization platform are now interoperable, which lets customers manage layer 2-7 network and application services in the software defined data center. Both products are used for provisioning resources for those data centers, where software--rather than physical cables--are used to reconfigure and provision computing resources for customers.
