Microsoft Chops 7800 Employees

Redmond-based Microsoft said this morning that it is cutting 7,800 positions, as part of a restructuring of the company's phone hardware business. Microsoft--which acquired that business from Nokia--said it would take an impairment charge of approximately $7.6 billion, along with a restructuring charge of approximately $750 to $850M as a result of the move. Microsoft said the move would help it "better focus and align resources".
