Uber To Add Restaurant Delivery Service In Seattle

On-demand ride service Uber is planning to roll out a meal delivery service in Seattle, part of a national expansion that looks to tap into its existing network of drivers to deliver food. Uber detailed plans to expand into ten cities across the U.S., including Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and a number of other large urban areas, which lets users use a new app called UberEats to order from local restaurants. The move comes as one of Uber's former competitors in the ridesharing area, Sidecar, exited the restaurant delivery business, shut down, and sold its assets to GM. Sidecar had gambled on restaurant deliveries last year, after it was unable to compete against Uber and Lyft in the on-demand rides area.
