Amazon Takes New Approach to Kids' Reading: Texting As Stories

Amazon.com is taking a unique approach to encouraging kids to read: it's rolled out a new product that texts stories, message by message, to kids. Amazon said its new Amazon Rapids service tells stories in a unique "chat" style, letting characters chat with each other, one message at a time. Amazon said it will make the service available to parents through a $2.99 per month subscription. The new service caters to kids ages 7-12, who--as digital natives--are more used to swiping through texts on their tablet than opening up a book, and who have very short attention spans due to digital technology.
