Portland, Oregon-based The Portland Group, which develops compilers and tools for software development, said today that it has released an upgrade to the company's Fortran, C, and C++ compilers and development tools. The firm said that the upgrade now allows development on Microsoft's Subsystem for Unix-based Applications (SUA). Microsoft's SUA is part of Windows Vista Enterprise and Windows Server 2003, and allows Unix applications to run on those operating sytsems. The Portland Group's products are used for high performance computing, and applications such as ocean modeling, weather forecasting, bioinformatics, and other areas. The Portland Group is a subsidiary of STMicroelectronics.
