Tipbit Lands $4M For Mobile Email

Bellevue-based Tipbit said today that it has raised $4M in its Series A funding, to go towards its mobile email applications. The funding round was led by Ignition partners. Tipbit is led by Gord Mangione, a former Microsoft executive who previously was in charge of Microsoft Exchange, and who later was at XenSource before its acquisition by Citrix. Tipbit is looking to radically change how email works on mobile phones, automatically pulling in social, search, email, meeting information, and much more into a phone, with the aim of helping make mobile email as productive as desktop email. The company's app--initially available on iOS--also has deep integration with cloud services such as Evernote, Dropbox, and Salesforce. Mangione said that the new startup came out of his desire to have a big impact on consumer technology, something he had experienced with Microsoft Exchange, and because email is "mission critical" to businesses.
