Tippr Sues DealOn, BuyWithMe

Seattle-based Tippr, the online group buying software firm headed by Martin Tobias, has sued its first two group buying site. In a lawsuit filed on February 18th in the Washington Western District Court, Kashless, Inc. (the parent firm of Tippr) sued DealOn, the online group buying software firm just acquired last week by local search marketing firm ReachLocal, as well as group buying site BuyWithMe, Inc. Tippr is accusing DealOn and BuyWithMe of patent infringement. Tippr said in December that it had "no one else in the industry has a more comprehensive patent portfolio" and that it has launched a "patent licensing" effort in the group buying area. Tippr's portfolio of patents was acquired by Vulcan Capital in February of 2010.
