University of Washington Boots Up Free Online Classes
The University of Washington will begin offering free, online classes to Internet browsers, in a tie into online education startup Coursera, the school said this morning. UDub has begun offering two classes, one on Information Security and Risk Management and the other on Scientific Computing, in what is expected to be a series of classes that people can sign up for from University of Washington instructors. Coursera already offers courses from a total of sixteen universities, allowing students to log on and view lectures and be tested on subjects. Coursera says it is looking to empower people with education to improve their lives. The startup is backed by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and New ENterprise Associates.
