Urban Airship Gets $1.1M

Portland-based Urban Airship, a developer of infrastructure software for the smart phone application market, said today that it has raised $1.1M in a Series A funding round. The round was led by True Ventures, and also included Seattle's Founders Co-op. According to Urban Airship, it will use the funding to expand its engineering team, and to extend its product across multiple platforms. The firm said it is emulating Amazon's EC2 cloud service, except applying its service to smart phone developers. The firm currently provides push notification to mobile app game publisher Tapulous, and says it also counts Universal Music Group, Virgin Atlantic, Yowza and Gowalla as customers. Urban Airship is headed by Scott Kveton. More information »
