VICIS Wins $500,000 From NFL, Others To Tackle Concussions

Seattle-based VICIS, the University of Washington spinout which is developing a new football helmet designed to reduce the probability of concussions, has won $500,000 as part of a competition sponsored by the NFL, GE, and Under Armour. According to UW and VICIS, the award came as part of the Head Health Challenge II, an effort by the NFL, GE, and Under Armour to encourage ways to reduce the highly publicized brain injury issues plaguing the sport of football. UW/VICIS said that it has also received an investment from W-Fund and the Alliance of Angels, along with grant funding from the from University of Washington's Center for Commercialization and the Coulter Foundation.
