VIOX Acquired By California Firm

Seattle-based VIOX, a maker of specialty glass for the electronics, industrial, and health care markets, has been acquired by Costa Mesa, California-based Ceradyne. According to Ceradyne, it is paying $27M in cash plus up to $22M in earn out for VIOX. VIOX develops a wide range of specialty glass, including special glass formulations for the photovoltaic solar market and solar cells, which make up 70 percent of its sales. As part of the acquisition, Ceradyne said it would leave all current VIOX personnel in place in Seattle, and plans to grow the operations. Ceradyne is a developer of advanced technical ceramic products and components for the defense, industrial, energy, automotive/diesel and commercial markets.
