Washington, Oregon See Boost In Tech Industry

Both Washington and Oregon saw growth in their technology sectors, according to a report released today from the AeA, an industry technology trade association. The AeA reported in its annual Cyberstates report that Washington State added 4,500 jobs, and Oregon added 1400 high tech positions in 2005, the most current state data available for the study. Both Washington and Oregon saw the most growth with software publishers. Overall, Washington was ranked 14th and Oregon was ranked 20th in terms of technology employment. Washington also ranked number two in the nation in terms of software employment. Oregon's largest technology sector is semiconductor manufacturing, which saw a loss of 200 net jobs in 2005.
