Washington Ferry Wi-Fi Operator Acquired

The provider of Wi-Fi access on the Washington State Ferries has been acquired by a California firm, Boingo Wireless, Boingo said Monday. According to Boingo, the WSDOT Ferries Division (WSF) has been acquired from Parsons Transportation Group. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. The acquisition will make the Washington Ferries Wi-Fi system--which covers 11 terminals and 15 ferries--part of Boingo's global network. The buy also drops the price current subscribers of the Wi-Fi system on Washington Ferries pay to $21.95 a month, while also giving those subscribers access to Boingo's other Wi-Fi access point. Subscribers are currently paying $29.95 a month for access. Boingo also said it will offer day passes, for $7.95, to its Wi-Fi network through the ferries.
