Widevine Wins Funai Electric

Seattle-based Widevine, a developer of digital rights management software, said Tuesday that it has signed on Funai Electric Co. Ltd, which manufactures consumer electronics under the Philips, Magnavox, Sylvania and Emerson brands, will use its platform for its Internet connected devices. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Widevine said the deal covers its adaptive streaming, virtual DVD/Blu-ray-like controls, and DRM on HDTV and Blu-ray players. The Funai devices are expected to ship in Q3 of this year.
