WISErg Finds $5M For Food Recycling

Remond-based WISErg, the developer of equipment to automatically recycle food scraps into organic fertilizer, said Wednesday that it has raised $5M in a Series B funding round. The startup, which is led by Larry LeSueur, helps recycle food waste--including meat, seafood, and produce--from such stores as Whole Foods Market, Town & Country Markets, PCC Natural Markets, and Red Apple Markets, and turns them into fertilizer. The company said its equipent uses an oxidative process which is superior to composting in that it also can digest and handle a wider range of materials, diverting them from landfills.
