Amazon Adds Media Streaming To AWS

Seattle-based Amazon.com has added streaming media delivery to the firm's content delivery network, Amazon CloudFront, the firm said late last night. According to Amazon Web Services, Amazon's web services subsidiary, the new streaming media support provides streaming delivery of audio and video content from its network of 14 edge locations, billed based on how much data is transferred from the service. Amazon said it added on-demand streaming media to reduce the technical complexity, sales negotiations, and up-front commitments requires from other content delivery networks for similar services. Amazon's new streaming media service is tied to its Amazon S3 cloud storage offering, with users either using its Amazon CloudFront API or management software to enable streaming of objects stored in S3. Amazon launched its Amazon CloudFront, content delivery network in November.
