Amazon Dangles 70 Percent Royalty To Magazines, Newspapers

Seattle-based Amazon.com is looking to attract more magazine and newspaper publishers to the Kindle, saying late last night that it will soon allows magazines and newspapers with a 70 percent revenue share option for titles. According to Amazon, the new royalty terms will become available on December 1st. The firm said the move is aimed at making the Kindle "better and easier than ever" for publishers. Amazon said that to qualify for the better royalties on titles, newspapers and magazines must be available on all Kindle devices and applications, and also must be available in all geographies in which a publisher has rights. The new program is similar to a 70 percent revenue share program Amazon has been running with book publishers, which it has been using to try to get book publishers to sell lower priced books on Kindle than actual, physical books.
