Amazon Publishing Buys Another Book Publisher

Seattle-based Amazon.com has acquired another book publisher, via its Amazon Publishing arm, the company said Monday afternoon. Amazon said it has acquired the publication rights for Avalon Books, which publishes romances, mystery, and western novels. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. Amazon said that the buy gives it access to over 3,000 titles. Avalon Books was a family owned business, which was founded in 1950 by Thomas Bouregy. Amazon said it will continue to publish books from Avalon on its West Coast imprints, which include Montlake Romance and Thomas & Mercer; the company also specifically said it is targeting electronic books rights to some of the older Avalon titles, in order to bring those books to a wider audience.
