Seattle-based Amazon Web Services has rolled out a new, high end instance for its EC2 computing service, which features a huge amount of memory--2TB--specifically to help support in-memory databases like SAP HANA, big data processing via Apache Spark or Presto, and other memory-gobbling software. According to Amazon, the new "Memory Optimized" X1 instance will feature 2Tb of memory, four 2.3Ghz Intel Xeon E7 8800 v3 (Haswell) processors, and dedicated bandwidth to access Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS).
