Amazon Web Services Launches S3 Import/Export Service

---- Seattle-based Amazon Web Services, the web services software arm of Amazon.com, said today that it has made its AWS Import/Export service for Amazon S3 generally available. The service allows users to more easily import data into Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), offline, via portable hard drives. Amazon launched the service into beta last May, saying that users were having a hard time importing their large data sets due to bandwidth limitations. Amazon said the Import/Export service is "significantly faster" than using the Internet, and more cost effective than upgrading network connectivity for users. Amazon said that users are using the service to both import and export terabytes of data to its systems.
