AppFog Adds Ruby, Node.js Support

Portland-based AppFog, the venture backed developer of a cloud-based, platform-as-a-service (PaaS) product for deploying web apps, said Tuesday that it has added support for two popular web technologies, Ruby and Node.js. AppFog--which is venture backed by Ignition Partners, Madrona Venture Group, First Round Capital, as well as individual investors--said the support for the programming languages are now in private beta. Ruby is an interpreted language which is popular with web app developers, Node.js is a set of JavaScript routines which run on web servers, and are used frequently for scaling out web apps using an event-driven architecture. AppFog's services help developers more easily deploy applications to the web, via dedicated servers. The company is run by Lucas Carlson.
