Elemental Supports 2nd Gen Intel Cores

Portland-based Elemental Technologies, which is developing parallel processing products for the video market which use graphical processing units (GPUs) to offload processing, said this morning that it is now supporting Intel's second generation Intel Core processors. The firm, which uses the processing capability of GPU cores to accelerate video encoding, decoding, and other functions, said its accelerate video compression has been implemented on the new Intel platforms. Elemental said use of Intel's new Core processors shows that Elemental's software transcoding can encode a high definition feature length film to a mobile profile in less than ten minutes. Elemental is headed by Sam Blackman, and is backed by such firms as Steamboat Ventures, General Catalyst and Voyager Capital.
