Google Takes On Gist With People Widget

Search engine giant Google has just announced plans for an email widget for Gmail, which does nearly the same thing as Gist, the Seattle software developer recently acquired by BlackBerry maker RIM. According to Google, its new People Widget provides information about friends, family, and colleagues, including recent emails from them, Buzz posts, shared documents, and more information. Although the Gmail widget from Google does not include the full depth of news feeds from social networks that Gist does, the widget includes similar information from Google's own Buzz social networking features.
