Kymeta Shows Off Antenna For Autos

Redmond-based Kymeta, which is developing metamaterials-based, electronically steerable antennas for high speed, satellite Internet connectivity, said today that it has demonstrated its antenna in for use in the connected car market. The company said it met a "significant milestone" in showing use of its 20 cm satellite antenna connecting to Intelsat's satellite constellation, for both Internet connectivity as well as enhancing driving and autonomous vehicle development. Kymeta's antenna overcomes the mechanical limitations which had made use of high speed satellite uplinks and downlinks impossible to use on moving automobiles. The demonstration is the result of a deal with Intelsat, announced last year, to adapt its technology for the connected car market.
