Mentor Graphics Buys Nimbic

Wilsonville, Oregon-based Mentor Graphics, the developer of computer aided design software, said last week that it has acquired Nimbic, a developer of 3D, electromagnetic (EM) simulation software. Financial details of the buy were not disclosed. Nimbic provides high end simulation software used to calculate complex, electromagnetic fields in the design of chips, packaging, and boards. The software is important for figuring out signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI (electromagnetic interference) issues in designs. Nimbic--formerly known as Physware--had a big Seattle presence, and was also backed by at least two local investors, including Madrona Venture Capital and WRF Capital.
