Microsoft Buys Greenfield Online

Microsoft said today that the firm has acquired Greenfield Online, a provider of Internet surveys and comparison shopping, specifically for Greenfield's European price comparison and shopping review service. The deal is worth approximately $486M. According to Microsoft, it will pay $17.50 per share in cash for Greenfield Online, which owns price comparison and shopping site Ciao GmbH. According to Microsoft, the move is part of further investments by the firm in Europe, and help the firm bolster Microsoft Live Search and commercial search capabilities in Europe. In conjunction with the acquisition, Microsoft said it has secured a buyer for Greenfield Online's Internet survey operations, but did not disclose a buyer details of that move. Ciao will report to Rajat Taneja, general manager for Worldwide Commercial Search at Microsoft.
