Microsoft Ropes In Another Android Device Maker

Redmond-based Microsoft Corp. has roped in another, Android device maker under its Android patent licensing efforts, saying today that Quanta Computer has signed a patent agreement covering Android and Chrome-based devices from the electronics maker. Details of the deal were not disclosed, however, Microsoft said that Quanta will pay royalties to the company as part of the agreement. Quanta is making tablet, smartphone, and other consumer devices which use the Android and Chrome platforms. Microsoft has been running a controversial program, targeting Android device makers, demanding royalties for patent coverage on devices using the Google operating system; Microsoft claims that its patents cover a number of technologies used in Android smartphones, tablets, and other devices.
