Pacific Northwest Companies Raise $152.8M In VC In Q4

Companies in Oregon and Washington raised a total of $152.8M in venture capital in Q4, according to the latest numbers from PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and the National Venture Capital Association. The numbers were from the quarterly MoneyTree Report, which is based on data from Thomson Reuters. The numbers were less than the $193.46M invested in the region in Q3.

Nationally, venture capital investors invested $21.8 billion across 3,277 deals in all of 2010 -- up 19 percent in terms of dollars, and 12 percent in terms of deals compared to last year. For Q4, nationally there was $5.0 billion in 765 deals, or a 2 percent increase in dollars and a 3 percent decrease in deals from Q3. The increase in investing was the biggest amount of venture capital invested since 2007.

In a conference call discussing the results, Gerry Langeler of Seattle and Portland venture investment firm OVP described 2010 as an "average year" for the firm, with results reflecting a return to "sensible investing". Langeler said that--despite talk of bubbles in Silicon Valley--that the firm is seeing many good deals, with deals at rational prices, despite a few areas he described as "frothy".
