Pacific Northwest Sees $158.5M In VC Investments in Q1

The tally of venture capital investments in the Pacific Northwest for Q1 was released this evening by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), based on data provided by Thomson Reuters, showing that $158.5M in investments were made in Washington and Oregon. The amount was down from the $228.64M invested in Q1 of 2010, and slightly less than the $172.6M invested in Q4 of 2010. Washington again had the most amount of investment, with $115.3M across 26 deals; Oregon had $43.2M in investments in 7 companies.

Nationally, venture capital investment up slightly, at $5.9 billion in 736 deals in the first quarter vs. $5.6 billion a year ago. Although dollars were up, the number of deals (736 nationally in Q1 vs. 827 deals last year) was the lowest in a single quarter since Q3 of 2009.
