Physio-Control Buys HeartSine

Redmond-based automated external defibrillator (AED) manufacturer Physio-Control said Monday that it has acquired a Northern Ireland-based competitor, HeartSine Technologies, in a deal which the companies said creates one of the world's largest AED providers. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. Both Physio-Control and HeartSine develop the now-ubiquitous, life saving devices, which are used to help correct the heart rhythm issues which sometimes occur in heart attacks. AEDs--when applied correctly, and in certain heart attack conditions--significantly improve the chance of survival for heart attack victims.
