RadiSys Rolls Hybrid OS
Hillsboro, Oregon-based RadiSys Corporation, a developer of embedded computing boards, said this morning that it has tied into an industry effort called Embedded4You. According to RadiSys, it has worked with the Embedded4You consortium to develop a showcase of its RadiSys Microware OS-9, real time operating system (RTOS) running at the same time with Microsoft Windows on the firm's COM Express embedded module. The module is running a virtualization hypervisor from Real Time Systems', which allows both operating systems to run at the same time on an Intel Core Duo processor. The support of both Windows and an RTOS on the same platform is useful to product developers, who often would like to tap available software and APIs on Windows, but need the stability and speed of embedded RTOS operating systems.
