REI Skipping Black Friday Again

Kirkland-based REI told its customers that it will again be shutting its doors on Black Friday -- the busiest day of the year for holiday sales -- and instead urging customers to go outdoors. REI, which shut its doors on Black Friday last year, said 1,408,117 of its customers opted to "head outside" last year, and that its hoping that "millions and millions" of others will opt to skip the shopping on Black Friday, and instead head out to parks, trails, mountains, and the water. The move comes as a large number of retailers have decided that opening on Thanksgiving was counterproductive to sales last year, especially Black Friday.
