Microsoft, Toyota Link On Telematics Deal

Redmond-based Microsoft and car maker Toyota said today that they are in a telematics services deal involving Windows Azure. According to the two, they will invest $12M in Toyota Media Service Co., a Toyota subsidiary offering up digital information services to Toyota automotive customers. The firm said the deal will help to develop and deploy telematics applications on the Windows Azure platform, starting with electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in 2012. The two said Microsot Azure will be used at Toyota's next generation telematics services platform.
