Amazon Sees Surge In S3 Storage Usage

Amazon Web Services, the web services arm of Amazon.com, reported last night that it has seen some serious growth in use of its Amazon S3 storage service. The firm said there has been a 192 percent growth, year-over-year, of storage into the online cloud storage service. The firm said it now has over 762 billion objects in the S3 service. Amazon explained that the amount of storage added to the service grew faster last year than it did in any year since it launched in 2006. Amazon's S3 service offers up a cloud-based, storage service which is aimed at web developers and others. Those developers are using S3 to store user data and information, in lieu of having to buy, maintain, and provide storage in-house for their services.
