Digimarc Expands Invisible Barcode Deal With HP

Beaverton, Oregon-based Digimarc announced today that it has signed a license deal with HP, which will use its barcode technology for invisible watermarking. The companies said the license will allow HP's users to imprint invisible watermarks on printed materials, such as product packaging, photos, textbooks and education materials. Digimarc said its technology--which is invisible to consumers--will allow for embedding of everything from barcodes to serial numbers and other information, across all kinds of print and packaging. Those codes are readable using a smartphone or industrial scanner loaded with Digimarc's technology. Financial details of the deal were not announced.
