Whitepages Extends Spam Caller ID To Windows Mobile

Seattle-based Whitepages has extended its spam caller identification app to the Windows 10 platform, the company said today, to help users determine the source of unknown calls. The company already has versions of the app on iOS and Android. Whitepages said the app is now available in the Microsoft App Store. The new app draws on a giant database of phone numbers and contact information, which it uses to correlate callers with known good callers; the company said that users of the app can help report malicious or unwanted calls and texts, to help build a communal list of bad numbers for all of its users. The company said that so far, its users have helped identify more than 10 million phone numbers making unwanted calls, with 47 percent being telemarketers, 29 percent being scams or fraudulent calls, and 17 percent as debt collectors.
