Itron Increases Smart Meter Manufacturing

Liberty Lake, Washington-based Itron, a manufacturer of smart meters and other related products for the electric and other utilities, said Tuesday that the firm is planning to rev up production capacity at its manufacturing plant in South Carolina. The firm said it has tapped new automation technology as part of the effort, in anticipation of increasing demand from smart grid initiatives in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
